Turn discipline into success. This is what the Slight Edge teaches us.

In 2020 the whole world faced a lot of challenges that affected everyone’s life.

It had such a massive impact on the world’s economy and people’s living that it made us think that achieving success is far beyond our reach.

One day, as I stayed more often at home, I came across Jeff Olson’s book, “The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines Into Massive Success.” It made me realize a lot of things. And I believe that people should know about the Slight Edge.

The slight edge is a life philosophy that each of us should apply in our daily life, and it really is appropriate for all ages. It prepares our children and us for life challenges that we’ll face as we grow. It helps us hope and achieve success and shows that it is not yet too late for any age to succeed and live a happy life and retirement.

The slight edge is about turning simple things to achieve enormous success. That’s what I want to share with you today. I think it is also the right timing for you to make a massive change in your life with simple habits that you’ll learn here.

The way you think matters!

You might have heard and read about how our mindset matters in being successful.

Remember that succeeding is not because of luck; instead, it is because the person chooses to make and choose things that can help them achieve the success they have right now.

If you change the way you think, it will change the way you act too.

Therefore, it changes results and changes in your life. You have to be careful with the things you do and the decisions you make every day because they matter. It may seem it doesn’t look like it matters, but it can make a difference.

If you fail, so be it. Learn from it and move on. A failure is an option, and it is one ingredient of success. It allows you to become better. You cannot ever change what happened in the past, but you can change your future by applying what you have learned from your failures.

Understanding “Easy to do” and “Easy not to do.” if you want to turn discipline into success

The book “Slight Edge” wants us to understand that you can transform your life with easy things. When I heard it, I doubted it. If it is simple to do, why do most people struggle? You are wondering, too, right?

Well, it’s funny, but it’s true. How? To be healthy, we were told that we need to eat nutritious food and do regular exercise. If you want to have a happy life, be a positive thinker. If you’re going to be successful, you have to focus on doing the action in achieving your goals.

These are easy things to do. However, since it is easy to do it, it is easy for us not to do it. Also, it has no immediate worst effect if you will not do it. Let’s admit it. We were enticed by the pleasure that we get from it. There are many jammy foods and movies that we can watch instead of exercising or eating a well-balanced diet. It is such a pleasure buying new shoes, dresses, accessories and all other wants instead of saving money. It is best to party out with friends all the time instead of making habits that serve you best.

Are you guilty too?

So it is our choice if you do simple things or habits that can make a big impact on your life or choose not to do it and stay the way you are right now. But let me ask you this right now, are you happy with what you have? Are you thrilled with what you see in yourself now? Are you satisfied with your life and achievements?

You may not appreciate at first the effect of doing simple things. However, that invisible result will soon show that you already master that simple habit, and people will see that you made the right decision.

You should also understand that there will be no instant effect if you will not continuously make simple yet good habits to reach your goals. It’s not like taking slimming pills, and you’ll get sexier in a day or week. It’s not lifting weights in a week that will give you the bodybuilder body you dreamed up. It requires consistency. That’s the key.

Plant, cultivate, and harvest! The way to turn discipline into success

Your journey starts with planting simple habits. As you take your first step towards your journey, you are moving forward in accomplishing success.

However, if you’d like to create a dramatic result from the simple things you do, you have to form habits consistently. Planting habits that will help you succeed, but you have to cultivate them daily. You also have to develop your patience in waiting to harvest the fruit of your labor.

So take our first step today, plant simple things that lead you to your goals, cultivate them by doing it daily, and harvest success sooner or later.

Curve path

Life is not a straight path that we take. The curve makes it more challenging to take. There can be uphill or downhill roads. You’ll have to keep yourself flexible in making turns to make sure that you’ll not end up crashing.

You drive your own life here. You are responsible for each action and decision you make. If you made a wrong turn in the curve, you could not blame it on the car or others. It would help if you took full responsibility for your actions.

It’s okay if we made a wrong turn or we failed. Successful people take responsibility for their actions and decisions. You have to master your success and improve day by day. Use the learnings you get from failures.

Baby steps to turn discipline into success

Life is not taking a quantum leap. It was just taking baby steps at a time. Those baby steps may take you a long time to reach your destination; however, as you take your actions, you learn and grow. Expect that there are times you will stumble or fall. But like a baby, you should still pull yourself up and try it again. Someday you’ll realize that you are now walking at your own and your pace.

Life is not a race. It is not who’s the fastest to reach the goal, just like the tale of the rabbit and the turtle. You better race slowly and steadily to win. You have to keep harnessing your momentum and be steadfast. Soon you’ll achieve an optimal rate of growth and never-ending improvement to make a solid foundation.

Invest in yourself to turn discipline into success

If you were given an ax to cut a tree for only 4 hours, what would you do? Some of us may immediately start cutting the tree. However, some will take time to make sure that the ax is not dull. They will sharpen it first to cut efficiently. Which one are you?

Sharpening the ax is like sharpening yourself. You can swing a dull ax with all your force and exact rhythm. Nevertheless, it won’t make a significant impact. Compared as if you will invest time to sharpen it. Every action will make a big cut.

The same things go for life. You have to invest in yourself. Sharpen your saw. Make habits that can help you improve yourself. Do you often see in the movies that rich people usually have a lot of books? That is because they keep reading books, continuous learning that makes them more successful.

There are workshops, webinars, books, coaching sessions, and more that can help you sharpen your saw and turn discipline into success. Not only that, invest in habits that can make a difference in your life. It may take time, but it will make your momentum consistent because you are backed up with an enormous amount of knowledge and skills you need.

You can also learn through modeling people who have the same goals or dreams as yours. If you want to be successful, you need to learn from mentors or people who will help you turn your dreams into reality. Learn and be inspired by them. Sooner, you’ll realize that you were like them already.

Applying a slight edge in your life to turn discipline into your success

These are just some of the great life key points you’ll find in a slight edge. We have to apply it in our daily lives and be consistent with it. It helps you with the momentum you need to take the curve path of life smoothly.

Do not forget that you have to have continuous learning so that no matter how many times you fail, you are still confident. That when you stand up again, you believe that you have what it takes to succeed. Be book smart and street smart. Not all can be learned from books, you also need to earn it by experience. However, the experience will only exist if you take steps in life—just baby steps to achieve your optimal growth.

Start creating a slight edge in your life by consistently doing simple things. Soon realize that you were able to make a success through simple things you did.
